Yes I'll admit that I'm a fan of this series Since Alex has always stood out to me as a woman who knows what she wants and I'm currently pregnant I thought now would be the time to give this uick read a lookThe book was a little different than I expected instead of dispensing advice it detailed Alex and Simon's approach to parenting the good the bad and the ugly I like that Alex admitted the mistakes that she made and didn't make any excuses or too big a deal over them I liked the He SaidShe Said style the book was written in and the Top 10 lists also made it a fun read Overall as a woman expecting her first child and wondering what her life will look like with children this book was very reassuring Yes Alex says you can still be you You can still go out to eat at nice restaurants keep your marriage intact and even travel internationally with a 14 week old if you're of a mind to This was a light and breezy pop culture read I like RHONYC which prompted me to read this book I think they are refreshingly candid on the show too I would not normally give this book 4 stars but as it is a pop culture genre and it lived up to my restrained expectations of it I gave it 4 stars I like the uirky and honest camaraderie between Alex and Simon and their honesty in expressing their opinions knowing they may well be criticized Their reminisces gave me a further fun peek behind the curtain of their lives I would have liked reflection of living and raising children in the New York City environment however I think they are a bit politically correct in many of their observations but then they live in New York City I'm a big RHONY fan and I probably wouldn't recommend this if you weren't Basically Alex and Simon give their opinions on lots of child raising issues She is fairly down to earth and I do like her character so I found the book enjoyable There's a lot of autobiographical information and since she's one of my favorite characters I enjoyed learning about her and her family It was also interesting to read about what's staged on the show in reference to the kids The main downfall of this book is that a lot of it's just her opinion that's fine if you want to learn about her but if you were looking for a real book on how to raise kids in a city I'd look elsewhere Trite self congratulatory and rather dull I suspect they only got the book deal because of their celebrity I'm glad they're successful and they seem like fine parents but really not everyone in NYC lives in a fully renovated 3 br home in Park Slope and can travel internationally with their kids from Day One My mistake in picking this up at the library was in thinking it would be NYC centered and useful Guess that's what I get for not watching TV Anyone else would have realized this was written by a star of Real Housewives of NYC Even though I gave this book 3 stars I really did like it It gives you a whole different perspective on Alex and her husband Simon than what is aired on Real Housewives They both are much mroe down to earth in their writing than what viewers see on the show It's a great easy read but not something that is going to really stick with you More of a memoir than an actual how to book on urban parenting I found this uite amusing and I enjoy watching Simon and Alex on RHONY The top 10 lists at the end of each chapter were fun and overall this was a uick and amusing read Definetly not a book I would take seriously but was a cute read Darling book Even though my daughter is grown I wanted to read the book since I am a fan of Real Housewives of New York The book was wonderful Lots of pictures cute stories uick read Interesting perspectives on child rearing practices
