sentimental or oppressively serious This one is a refreshing change In a mood similar to Sam McBratney's Guess How Much I Love You the author presents a goodnight scene between a mother fox and her child As his mood winds down Little Fox yawns Mama tell me again about the day I came home His mother tells a simple story about the longing she experienced as she waited for him He then asks about his birth mother and she sensitively gives him answers appropriate to his age which acknowledge the tragedy that accompanies adoption and emphasizes that God was at work in those circumstances planning to bring Little Fox home to her and make her the happiest mama in the world Finally Little Fox asks Mama will you be my forever mama? and she answers elouently and at some length that he has come to where he belongs as the best gift in the whole wide worldThis gentle conversation is very carefully crafted including both joy and pain for both of its speakers yet contextualizing the pain within the warm security of a stable loving home which operates by faith in God's providence for their lives The story is exceptionally well paced with each word chosen for maximum effect Laura Bryant's comforting illustrations support the overall mood of security acceptance and gratitude It's appropriate for preschool and elementary ages Thanks to my friend Allison this book came into my life I wish that I could put into words the way that it touched my life Having experienced the pain of infertility and also going through the adoption process this book touches on those insecurities I have and helps me be able to put into words the way that I will love our child when heshe finally comes home to us This is a truly special book and one that anyone who is adopting should read I've read through it twice in the last few days and I'm fairly certain that final page is going to have a hard time staying in good condition Each time my tears splatter the page from how moved I feel This is a precious precious book about adoption shown through a mother fox and her adopted fox son This book beautifully describes the struggles of those with a deep desire to become parents that cannot bear children of their own and that dream of and pray for a child to adopt This book also shows the immense love and bond that can develop between a parent and their adopted child I really love this book and highly recommend it to anyone adopting or thinking about adopting a young child The book begins with little fox asking his mom to tell him again about the day he came home She tells him the story repeating the refrain “when God found us you” The mama fox talks about how she had dreamed of little fox for a long time before he came saying “I started seeing you everywhere in the leaves of the giant oak and in the bark of the pine Even in the stars Oh how I longed for the day that you would arrive when God would find us you” The mama fox also talks about how she had to wait for a long time for the baby fox how she was lonely and sometimes sad but that she knew they would be together The baby fox asks about his birth mother but knows that he is now home and lovedThe illustrations are beautifully painted showing the forest and the foxes from various perspectives Some pictures include borders some extend across multiple pages All show animals painted with love and emotionsA good companion read with Tell Me Again about the Night I was Born by Jamie Lee Curtis One bedtime Little Fox asks Mama Fox for the story of how he came to them and Mama Fox tells her favorite story of How God found us you Little Fox is obviously familiar with this story because he prompts throughout Mama Fox admits that she sometimes got sad when she saw other mamas with their families but how she knew that God knew Little Fox and knew them and was waiting for the perfect time to bring them together Little Fox asks if he looks like his first mother and Mama Fox answers positively and to reinforce his feelings of security and says she thinks his first mother prayed just as much about Mama Fox as Mama Fox did about his first mother It is assuming closed adoption but could easily create conversations about opennessA wonderful sweet book When I read it out loud to our baby my husband got something in his eye cough I think I'll be buying this one soon As Little Fox gets ready for bed Mama Fox tells him the miraculous story of his arrival First there was the waiting 'I'd go up to the cliffs and watch for you' Mama Fox tells her child Then the mother who had Little Fox made the big decision to give him away 'I think she prayed like crazy that you would be safe Little Fox I think she prayed for me as much as I prayed for her' Then finally both their prayers were answered the day God delivered Little Fox to Mama Fox 'When God found us you you made me the happiest mama in the world' Lisa Tawn Bergren tells this heartwarming tale with tenderness and a true understanding Just as How Big Is God captures the immensity of looking at God through a young child's eyes this book captures the intimate but no less profound discovery of the blessings that adoption brings to both parent and child God Found Us You is a great story about a mama fox who waited for her little one It's pretty much my story and often brings tears to my eyes I love how the story depicts that a child is worth the wait that a child doesn't have to physically look like hisher parents and especially how it emphasizes the God factor in forming families God Found Us You also contains beautiful colorful illustrations The only phrase that I'm slightly uncomfortable with is when the birthmother is described as having a good reason to give you up There must be a better way to phrase that point for adoptive children I'm still contemplating that I still love the story though and it's a favorite in our multi racial family of four This adoption story is told from a mother's point of view and spends much of the book dwelling on the loneliness of the mother fox before God found her child a home with her When I read books about adoption to my children I'm looking to give the children words to put to their feelings about having been adopted My feelings before or after the adoption aren't something they need to be thinking or worried about If this book had focused on the child's journey and less on the mother's I would have wanted to add it to our own bookshelves As it was I sent it back to the library unread to my children This is my all time favorite book for children about adoption It fits any adoption domestic international baby toddler child foster boygirl as the As an adoptive parent I feel this book helps hit all the major uestions an adoped child may have about their past and future As a mother I felt like the author knew exactly what I struggled through while waiting for my little boy This is a very sweet book that holds a treasured place on my shelf
