The description begins Listening In allows the reader to eavesdrop behind the closed door of the therapy room and I was drawn to reading the book since this is a good description of my own book Opening a Closed Door; A Psychotherapist Remembers His Patients Aside for the sneaky plug for my book it also turned out to be an accurate description of this book with the exception that it is fiction whereas mine is true life Never mind it is a good glimpse into the interactions between therapist and client and a peek into the mind and private life of a therapist My other caveat is that honestly few therapists I have known are as constantly as good as Patrick or hopefully uite as messed up in their private lives But after all it is a novel some fast moving action is reuired and the story line delivers well What happens is a lot of coincidence but not inconceivable There are some great lines worth copying down in fact and some deep and far reaching thoughts opened that could touch on all of our livesThe closing may well be a spoiler for some and so I will not comment on it I thought the comparisson between prostitution and counselling an odd one initially but found the content of the book to be well written and compelling I felt it offered insight into the therapeutic relationship and some of the challenges that participants can experience on both sides and enjoyed the various twists the story contained Thumbs up from me Good novel about therapy written by a therapist Shows the possible pitfalls of therapy for the counsellor and how important supervision isA wee bit far fetched at times but could see what the author was trying to do
