The first book in the EsKape Reunion Series kicked this series off to a great start It introduces Tom patriarch of the Cooper family whose ailing health is forcing him to give up the alpaca farm he loves so much Stubbornly he tries to hang on to the life he knows all the while still grieving the wife who died ten years prior Enter Laurie a widow with her own painful past Laurie encourages him to contact his four children all grown and scattered to the wind to come home for a family reunion in hopes they'll find a way to leave the farm in good hands The two of them have an undeniable chemistry from the start which I found refreshing in terms of a seasoned romance Falling in love isn't limited to twenty and thirty somethings after all You also get a glimpse into the lives of Tom's children who each have their own story in subseuent books If you love sweet and clean romance grab a copy for yourself Let me be honest here for a minute I don't often read second chance romance novels whose characters are on the older side They always seem to either be missing some key element or they are so caught up in the love they lost that it comes across as demeaning to the new person in their life HOWEVER This story was so sweet and so well executed that I was caught up nearly from the first page Tom and Laurie have a sweet chemistry between them that is obvious to everyone except maybe them I enjoyed watching the tentative way they wold flirt with one another and being able to get inside their heads to see what they were thinking And while it was easy to see the depth of Tom's love for his dead wife I thought the author managed to incorporate it in a way that was realistic without crossing the line into depressing I believe that Ms Kiyono did a fantastic job of setting up the rest of the series Overall I do think this novel will still appeal to those who enjoy good clean second chance romance I would read from this author DISCLAIMER I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review This has not affected my review in any way All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own This love story is the first in a series involving the Cooper family and is set in the small town of Escape The hero of the story Tom Cooper an attorney is still mourning the loss of his wife Amy His children are all gone and he is alone Laurie was forced from her nursing career and moved to Escape and opened a small diner Neither one of them are looking for love They are drawn closer when he helps her financially with her diner A sweet romance with likable characters and a good beginning to the series I received an arc copy and voluntarily chose to review this book Beautiful Love Story that isn't about 20 or 30 somethings While the timeline skims over some events the overall story is wonderful It's a mostly clean read which I can appreciate The antagonists are written in such a way you want to throttle them and suddenly the author moves to another scene thus not riling you up too much The introspection provided from each of our lead characters was well done I had a hard time putting this down and was very unhappy when it ended I WANT MORE Warm hearted RomanceA touching story about second chances on life and love Patricia Kiyono brings ordinary characters to life in an unforgettable way An alpaca farmer and the diner owner have loved and lost Maybe this time they'll have their happy ever after This book is the first in a series I'm looking forward to reading the others Ms Kyono has written a beautiful story with characters that take you by the hand and gently lead you through the book The town of Escape is the setting for the first book of Ms Kyono's that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it I look forward to book twoI am leaving an voluntary review for an ARC of this book The Road to Escape is the first sweet and heartwarming book in the Escape Reunion series written by author Patricia Kiyono Great characters and storyline Looking forward to reading about the Cooper family Thanks to esKape Press for the advance copy I really enjoyed this short book It allows readers to take in small town atmosphere and enjoy the warmth of friends and family I liked Laurie and thought she was a good character We get to know her as the story revolves around her and the diner she bought It has been hard for her to start over but she is trying to fit in What made her stop being a nurse? Is there someone in town trying to sabotage Laurie? I loved the picture the author painted with clear and precise words of the diner It would be fun to sit and visit in the diner as you eat the delicious dishes that are served Tom was an interesting character He has lost his wife several years ago but it is hard for him to let go of her memory He begins to notice that something isn't uite right and after the doctor gives him a diagnosis he decides he needs to make some changes I loved reading a story about older people who have lived a happy life and now find themselves having to start over I liked how the author slowly developed a relationship between Laurie and Tom It is a nice story about family friendship and finding love again I am looking forward to reading in this seriesI received a copy of this book from the Early Readers Program from Librarything The review is my own opinion This starts out fairly gently with a widowed farmer and a cafe owner with a past who've been resisting the attraction between them Then her past starts to catch up with her and so does his This builds gradually but starts moving and rapidly with one surprise after another A multi author series this is the first tale and sets the stage I suspect each story will stand alone but I have a feeling you are going to want to start HERE with this well written and plotted book and meet the characters who will prove central to the whole There are some hard hitting family issues discussed but a lot of warmth and humor ties everything together Special Note I received this ARC Advanced Reader's Copy in exchange for a reviewThe synopsis was okay The story line was fine even though it may have been a little weak in a few places Overall I think this book should be targeted towards senior citizens as this particular time of life would be relatable to them failing health widow status etc Would I reread it again? Probably not The author can produce a good story but I'm much too young for something like this Give me three decades and I'll have a better understanding of what these characters have endured
