fantastic time travel freebie on in February I just had to get it asap The premise was even fascinating and exactly what I was looking for On the run with from the alien Cataxi the space pirate Cynthia the Invincible is stranded in Earth's dim prehistory when a lucky shot on her ship destroys the jump unit Marooned in 1810 she is forced to hide while the ship tries to repair itself Since she enjoys playing the computer game Jane Austen World she hides in Regency England She finds that real life in the Regency is different from the game Especially when it comes to love In the beginning I had a bit of a struggle getting into the book due to the short paragraphs and dialogue still in no time I was hooked and finished the book in one sitting James aka lord Wroxham found the ladies of the tone boring and was getting tired of all the scheming mamas and simpering ladies Everything was too easy for him and life was starting to get decidedly dullSpace pirate Cynthia was happy creating mischief across the galaxies until she got into a lot trouble than she expected and then ended up stuck back in 'primitive earth' needing repairs for her spaceship and as a result she ends up a guest in Lord Wroxham's home Cynthia is challenging fun and has a knack for trouble and she seems than James can handle but one thing is for sure she's definitely not boringThere was no insta love between our hero and heroine and their relationship didn't follow the typical historical romance route I enjoyed the respect admiration slow developing love between them over the course of many months Both Cynthia and James were level headed fun loving people with than their fair share of intelligence and admirable problem solving skills I especially loved Chris a complicated automaton or a type of artificial intelligent being who is a part of Cynthia's diaryearringship who is also cheeky manipulative matchmaker I really wished there were scenes involving the cheeky ChrisI especially loved the fact that each character including the hero and heroine and side characters had a distinct personalty uirks The constant fun playful dialogue adventure and mishaps were a lot of fun and kept me glued to my kindle The book is 207 pages long but I was left feeling truly satisfied but also wanting I can't wait to read books by Ms Treader The character Cynthia is on a space ship when it's hit and needs repairs Cynthia must land the ship and ends up in old England The story describes all the new things she experiences and how she tries to fit in as a lady I enjoyed the story line very much The setting in old England is one of my favorite times I love the clothing style from that era The Ultimate 'Fish out of water' tale When Cynthia a space pirate tries to escape after stealing a pendant her ship is hit and needs to stop for repairs She is thrown in to old time England and finds refuge with the slightly arrogant Lord Wroxham She must not only learn about her surroundings but try to curb her less than soft and feminine nature The hilarity of Cynthia's mental dialogue in stark contrast to her demure spoken dialogue kept me chuckling throughoutTeam that with her inability to recognize even the most common things like horses cows and fires making her mission to fit in as a proper lady even difficultThis is a fun and original read but I couldn't help having small snippets of Mork and Mindy pop into my mind Highly recommended In the year 2342 Cynthia is pursued in “border space” by the Cataxi an alien domain willing to destroy a planet to kill herJust as her space ship driven by her onboard computer “Chris” attempts a jump to lightspeed a shot from the Cataxi takes out the planet from which Cynthia et al just departed The percussion from the explosion sends our foul mouthed video gaming heroine back to nineteenth century England Cynthia is concerned about her video game than her real life fate She passes off the possibility of prison with this remark to Chris “Damn I suppose prison is better than starving to death Let me know when you pick up the guidance beam I'll be in the AR3 suite I want to see if I can finally seduce Mr Darcy Take him away from that dreadful Elizabeth Bennett”In response Chris asks “That Jane Austen game again? Why don't you play something wholesome like Battle for Mars or Kabul Shootout?”Cynthia the invincible is the Marty McFly of the 21st Century with Chris instead of Doc Brown at her side Together they seek adventure romance and a little fun while their spaceship is repaired Author Amelia Grace Treader in her fifth book takes readers through the space time continuum as Major Tom meets Downton Abbey We like the use of dialog to drive plot with a bare minimal scene setting We’ve been into the future with Dave and HAL and we’ve seen the past with Barry Lyndon Treader allows readers to use their imagination rather than lengthy descriptions—and it works We find it a refreshing diversion from the typical “dark and stormy night syndrome” often found in this genre The challenge of juggling space exploration time travel and romance is adeuately met by this author who is herself a Southern Belle Readers will be glad to know a seuel is in the works Will Cynthia find true love in the past? Will she give her suitor reasons to love her? Will she give readers reasons to care about her? Will she be happy enough in 19th Century England to stay?Just how old is Cynthia and will she age like Dick Clark? For the answers to these and other uestions pick up a copy today My full review is in the February 2015 issue of Perihelion Science Fiction The ezine is updated with new stories book reviews artwork and science articles on the 12th of every monthExerpts belowAfter two novels in a row of vivid conjugal verbiage a fit of nostalgia sent me on a uest for an old fashioned romance Amelia Grace Treader offered just the antidote I needed with Cynthia the Invincible A futuristic space pirate who loves a Jane Austen video game? I downloaded the book at onceCynthia is a thief a sneak and a wanted woman but her sins are not an aberration from the enduring genre of Regency romances Even Jane Austen had no time for flawlessly virtuous heroines; their failings and foibles are what get readers to notice them in the first place Cynthia has been known to ignore a crisis rather than set aside her Jane Austen World game in which her goal isto seduce Mr Darcy? Not marry but merely seduce? So much for my little flight from the sudden spate of X Men hooking up with XXX Women in my science fictionIt's all good though Cynthia plays the field with no thought of enduring the shackles of marriage and if she ever does get her hands on Mr Darcy's trouser buttons it'll only be in a videoThat Jane Austen game again? laments Chris the disembodied AI who can't seem to get Cynthia to focus on serious matters like dodging enemy fire or evading warrants for her arrest Why don't you play something wholesome like Battle for Mars or Kabul Shootout?A wanted woman throughout several solar systems Cynthia is on the run from the Cataxi I enjoyed the diversion of this simple light hearted romance filled with meddling matriarchs star crossed lovers galaxy crossed and time crossed as well engaging minor characters and a classic AI who is wiser than his human charge it could have used one round of editing tightening and developing the theme with greater depth On the bright side I like Cynthia I absolutely love Chris the AI and I would read from this author A brilliant book by Amelia Grace Treader that describes “Cynthia the Invincible’s” journey from another solar system back home to earth A wanted woman throughout earth her spaceship lands in the period 1810 where she finds herself becoming part of Lord Wroxham’s estate and his heart The book displays the writer’s skill at amalgamating Sci Fi and history while retaining the reader’s interest throughout Highly recommended Amor vincit omnia Oh yes this was fun to read and cerebralI would love to read a part twoCynthia guide to time and space ? Wonderful world building and slow burn romance I felt like we need Chris Just love the characters in story And as fan of Jane Austin this a bounce Cynthia loves interacting with the 'Jane Austen World' game When she is being chased by The Cataxl their weapons throw her into the past and back on Earth in 1810 Now she can experience the real Jane Austen world but will it live up to her expectations And what trouble can she causeAn enjoyable story Abandoned at 10% I didn’t enjoy the tone of the book; the author was striving for humor but it was snarky than funny Lots of action but in the end I did not feel anything for the characters No real romance and character building I was just glad to finish it
