Picture Perfect Love A June Wedding Story by Melissa McClone is book number seven in the A Year of Weddings 2 series In a novella, the author has such a shortened amount of time to tell the story and to make us fall in love with the main characters But Melissa has surely accomplished this in this simply wonderful little book I have read several of Melissa s books She is my go to author for a HEA, and for the warm and fuzzy feelings all her books bring when I read them But this is her first Picture Perfect Love A June Wedding Story by Melissa McClone is book number seven in the A Year of Weddings 2 series In a novella, the author has such a shortened amount of time to tell the story and to make us fall in love with the main characters But Melissa has surely accomplished this in this simply wonderful little book I have read several of Melissa s books She is my go to author for a HEA, and for the warm and fuzzy feelings all her books bring when I read them But this is her first Inspirational Romance, and I have fallen in love with it.Jenna Harrison is a wedding photographer for her own company, Picture Perfect Photography in Sweetwater, Washington But her own love life hasn t been as successful as the many couples she photographs Two years ago, Jenna was left at the alter by who she thought was the love of her life, her own HEA, Ashton Vance Ashton was running for public office and when a picture was posted to Facebook that made him a laughing stock and cost him his candidacy, he blamed Jenna and canceled the wedding and walked out of her life.Ashton now has his dream job working for a law firm that is his perfect fit Losing the candidacy was the best thing that ever happened to him And now, two years later, Ashton s sister, Amber, has admitted that it was her that posted the picture of him, not Jenna after allIf he d only listened to her, but he d thought he knew best and put his belief behind his family instead of his fiancNow his sister wants Jenna to photograph her own wedding but will Jenna ever accept his apology Two years is a long time As soon as he sees Jenna, he realizes what has been missing from his life that has kept him from moving forward It is Jenna He is so impressed with the woman she has become She has found a new church and her faith has blossomed along with her self confidence and her business But will she ever give him a second chanceHe should have believed Jenna He should have stood by her He should have done things everything differentlyAlthough Jenna is a completely different woman now, she still has her wedding dress she was supposed to wear hanging in the back of her closet So has she really moved on As she and Ashton spend time together, something blooms again within her heart With the help of Ashton s meddling sister, a shared berry cobbler, and being stuck in a gazebo during a bad thunderstorm, second chances become a reality It must be the magic of Melissa s words that made me fall so completely in love with Jenna and Ashton I have to be truthful in that I had my reservations about Ashton He hurt her so badly But as Jenna accepts him back into her life and forgives him it was obvious that he was the only man for her This story warmed my heart and made me smile as I hope it will do for youThere s always a plan Not yours or mine, but His This was a quick read and was a book that captured my attention immediately I found Jenna s job as a photographer fun and I loved seeing the way she interacted with her clients I did feel that the story neededtime to develop fully, and because it was a novella it felt hurried so wasn t as good as it could be Overall, I m glad I read this book and would recommend it. Two years ago, Jenna Harrison s fianc dumped her the day before their wedding after accusing her of posting an embarrassing Photoshopped picture of him on Facebook, a photo which forced him to withdraw from an election campaign Now he s back, apologetic, and wants her to photograph his sister s wedding Amber, who has finally confessed to being responsible for posting the picture Jenna has s wedding Amber, who has finally confessed to being responsible for posting the picture Jenna has changed since she was engaged to Ash Their breakup brought her to rock bottom financially and spiritually, but she joined a new church and is now a strong character, but not a perfect one and I liked that Her struggle to forgive Ash felt real, especially when he had been too self absorbed to see the financial and professional problems he d caused her She was a well developed and likeable character Ash wasn t so well developed The breakup had benefited him financially, although he was never man enough to tell Jenna that which annoyed me He also didn t seem to be her equal spiritually I got the impression he went to church out of habit rather than actually having a personal faith And I didn t see any character change in him, either in the course of the novella, or between the Ash Jenna remembered from two years ago and the one in front of her today Did he lack depth because this is a novella and there wasn t the word count to develop him further Possibly, but I ve read plenty of novellas which managed to do a better job of developing both the hero and heroine As a romance novella, Picture Perfect Love is supposed to have a happy ever after ending well, technically a romantically satisfying and optimistic ending I m not convinced Jenna and Ash Maybe There was physical attraction in spades, so if that s enough to maintain a relationship, they ll be fine But Amber and Toby No Amber is too immature and has difficulties with concepts like truth and repentance I found her unlikeable, and couldn t see why a sweetheart like Toby was interested in her, let alone marrying her Overall, Picture Perfect was well written, but a good romance needs a lovable hero as well as a believable heroine and I m not sold Thanks to Litfuse Publicity and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review Picture Perfect Love was a sweet romance I liked the second chance love wedding She lost everything her friends, her money and even her church As the novella opens, Jenna has rebuilt her life she is still paying off the wedding debt but has a new church and her wedding photography business is going well So well, that Ash turns up on her doorstep begging forgiveness and asking Jenna to photograph his sister Amber s wedding Jenna has misgivings, what will she do The main theme in Picture Perfect Love is that of love Both the dewy eyed love of the wedding day couples and the steadfast love of God for His children which never fails Jenna has been transformed by God s love over the previous two years The novella highlights the importance of us all to find a church family where we can fit in and belong Jenna s church family loves and supports her And she, in turn volunteers and gives back to her church family Love is a two way relationship It is give and take It is Christ s love for each and every one of us.The novella also deals with the themes of trust and forgiveness Both are inextricably linked Forgiving someone is hard, but with God s strength it is possible However trusting the person who hurt you, takes a great deal of strength as there is always the fear that they may hurt you again. The theme of forgetting is linked in to trust and forgiveness One must consign past hurts to the past, or they will have the power to still hurt us We need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus to be able to truly forgive and forget.I really enjoyed Picture Perfect Love It was a light hearted wedding novella with very likeable characters Jenna was delightful, and was able to focus on her job as a wedding photographer creating the perfect photos, no matter how she was feeling For a novella, Picture Perfect Love tackled some meaty themes, which we would all be wise to observe It was a perfect evenings read Picture Perfect Love is the newest addition to the Year of Weddings series from Zondervan Like the other titles, it s a novella that somehow includes a during her wedding rehearsal But that was two years ago, and she s moved onmostly When her ex fiance shows up on her doorstep, all bets are off Picture Perfect Love will offer you a one to two hour getaway from the stresses of life You ll grow attached to the characters very quickly and be sad to see their story end after spending such a brief period of time with them I hope we ll see a sequel McClone sets a picturesque scene for the final wedding in the book I probably reread that paragraph five times because I love it so much Often novellas can feel rushed or drawn out, but McClone manages to set and keep the pace just right There was only one time in the story that felt rushed by jumping a few weeks instead of letting us see a relationship develop Apart from that, I have no criticism If you have an hour or two for an extremely enjoyable read, pick up Picture Perfect Love You won t regret it Highly recommended for fans of inspirational fiction, Christian romance, and novellas I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Favorite lines His heartbeat rivaled the rumble of thunder. No air remained in her lungs She drew in a short breath so she could before so she decided to concentrate on her photographry career I really loved this story, the characters were each to get into and i loved that its set in June Can t wait to readbooks by this author heart still hasn t recovered When his younger sister admits the role she played in breaking up Jenna and Ashton, he is willing to make amends But is it too little too late Or can Jenna and Ashton find a way past hurt and betrayal into a possible future together Like all of these novellas, some are better than others This is one I happened to enjoy quite a lot This was the first thing I d read by Melissa McClone, and I was impressed with her writing Her characters have a depth to them that is often hard to see in a novella.I really liked the way that Jenna worked her business I liked how she would go out of her way to make her clients feel special I also liked the way that she was real with her emotions I think my favorite part of the story was when she takes part in a Trust Fall on a ropes course with the teens in the youth group as well as Ashton, his sister, and her fiancee I also liked how Ashton was willing finally to make amends for the part that he played in breaking Jenna s heart His growth was a little slower because he kept making the same mistakes But overall, I really came to like him.I ll have to keep this author on my radar and look forby her.I received the Kindle Not romantic The hero proves himself to be spiritually immature, but also someone the heroine shouldn t trust with her heart especially when history repeats itself and a second chance becomes a third love, trust and faith founded in God The speech was nice and flowery, but, like Ashton s character, Not romantic The hero proves himself to be spiritually immature, but also someone the heroine beautiful speech about love, making mistakes and how he plans to commit himself to her based on unconditional love, trust and faith founded in God The speech was nice and flowery, but, like Ashton s character, his words didn t ring true.I actually would have preferred, at the end of the story, if Jenna accepted his apology, but told him they weren t meant for each other Because true love unconditional love always protects, always trusts and believes the best out of people Ashton didn t do this with Jenna twice.I don t understand how he could say he loved her when actions completely contradicted his words I mean, love is an action verb and Ashton failed to take action when it came to love I know the message of this novella is that love is messy, but shouldn t love also be true If it were me, I would be hesitant to give him a second chance in love Definitely, not a third His actions hardly proved to be a sound foundation in a potential marriage between the two Forgive him Yes, I would But this love story wasn t swoony, attractive or even remotely desirable I also wouldn t want to marry into a family that carelessly mistreat others to the point of wreaking havoc on someone s life and not consider apologizing for the damage done until years later Ashton s sister and father lacked full responsibility for their impertinent actions until they were caught or wanted something from Jenna Ugh On a side note, Jenna was my favorite character I related to her from the beginning, loved her transformation from her adversity and admired her strength I also liked Melissa McClone s writing style and her story had a good pace Unfortunately, this novella was not one I d be willing to recommend or read again This review is also posted on Book by Book.Melissa McClone s Picture
