I enjoyed the first book in the trilogy, but I loved this second book It doesn t suffer from the usual world building, bridge crossing that weighs most second books down It brings so much complexity and depth to the story and the character development is top notch The characters really seem to come to life I love the characters Tarquin s impatience with Kere is so frustrating, and yet I like Tarquin anyway perhapsbecause he s so flawed Liaku is shrewd and believable and wonderful I enjoyed the first book in the trilogy, but I loved this second book It doesn t suffer from the usual world building, bridge crossing that weighs most second books down It brings so much complexity and depth to the story and the character development is top notch The characters really seem to come to life I love the characters Tarquin s impatience with Kere is so frustrating, and yet I like Tarquin anyway perhapsbecause he s so flawed Liaku is shrewd and believable and wonderful Istar and Jaya are fascinating and awesome I can t wait to see how Leith brings this together in the third book.And the details And the language I just loved it Just not my cup of tea, I guess I made it through the first book in the trilogy, but just couldn t keep going Too much mystical stuff for my liking.
