The Tale of Atterberry The Faire Pendant Series Book 1 Glenna is the daughter of Renaissance employees and enjoys going and having fun at the makeshift medieval times Then one day she receives a pendant and her life changes forever She is able to transport to Otherworld and enchanted realm There she makes friends with mystical creatures fairies sprites and She finds herself involved in a dangerous uest to help Atterberry a magician He has an important item stolen and Glenna decides to help find itA fun read for middle schoolyoung adults and adults young at heart The story is fast paced well written and very original Glenna is very lovable she has a special charm about her I enjoyed this magical read and feel readers of all ages will enjoy it as well I have always been a huge fan of anything fantasy and when I was given the opportunity to review this book I was so excited I loved this book and I highly suggest it to anyoneThe first thing I loved about The tale of Atterberry was the characters The main character Glenna and her friends were all uniue and enchanting I found myself intrigued and mystified by all of them and their expression Recently I have found myself reading increasing amount of YA fantasy and usually I look for an older protagonist who I can look up to and aspire to be I found that although in this book Glenna is younger than myself I still looked up to her and found her a spirited and courageous young ladyWhen I finished this book I found myself curious and craving an element which I think should be present in any book yet so many authors fail to achieve Here I found myself gripped by the story and characters even though it was intended for younger readersSince I could read fantasy has been ever present in my life and I can just imagine how much joy the imagination of the younger version of me would have found in these books I think they are a real gem that can be read and enjoyed by any ageI loved how the plot developed throughout and the mystery solving involved kept my mind at work Although I think it was predictable at times I found I didn't mind and I think it was perfect for younger readers in the complexity sense I thought that there were words which younger readers would struggle with but that was fine as they only cropped up on occassion and it is an easy way to enhance vocabularyAs a teenager I absolutely loved the ideas of the storyanother world where myths and magic come to life? It was literally everything fantasy lovers could want in a book It really left a lot of room for the imagination yet gave the most perfect descriptions the writing was sublime and looking back on it I am finding it near impossible to fault it The only thing I could critisize was the predictability and although I loved the characters and all the elements of fantasy I like books with a lot of action and a little romance and this book lacked I found in both these aspects However as a children's book I would not expect either of these elements so I suppose that's just me being pickyThe storyline was like nothing I've encountered before I've never come across a fantasy book uite like this one and I am very eager to read the seuels I can see this book series making it bigand it deserves to I can't stress enough how great this book really isSo if you are looking for a fantasy book that has ideas that are exciting new and brimming with imagination then I suggest you get reading I really hope this book gets the hype it deserves A truly magnificent triumphHebe x I found this to be a truly charming little novelAlthough the plot did wrap up a little uickly as it neared the climax it was well written and thoroughly engrossing throughout Price has a very vivid writing style and it lends itself well to the fantastical descriptions of both the renaissance faire and the Otherworld The setting is highly imaginative and I really enjoyed how much effort had been put into the world building It is made very clear how the Otherworld functions and when the nature of the people who live their is revealed it helps to a add a lot to the tensionMy only real problem with the story was that I felt that the characters were a little flat While I appreciate that it's a very short novel and so Price did not have a lot of space in which to develop them I really would have liked to see them become a little rounded Glenna seems to just be too perfect always polite and acting for the greater good while the villain's attitude is just because he's always been bad I hope that the next novel fleshes them all out a little All in all it's a very fun little novel and will be readily enjoyed by both middle graders and young teens who are looking for a light read I can't wait for book 2 The Tale of Atterberry tells the story of Glenna a young girl whose parents work the Renaissance Fair circuit meaning that her life is surrounded by a touch of magic every day When Glenna meets an old woman who gives her a beautiful necklace Glenna is suddenly able to cross over into a world with real magic fairies sprites etc known as Otherworld Glenna was a great main character because she was likeable and energetic Ms Price's descriptions of the magical world are vivid and memorable The story is concise and the writing is perfect for the targeted age range This book would be a great read for kids young adults and adults who still live in their imaginations Gleanna's parents are Renaissance employees She loves going to the make shift Medival times and having fun One day she receives a pendant that changes her life forever She is able to transport herself to Other world an enchanted realm Where she makes friends with Fairies sprites and other mystical creatures She gets involved in a dangerous uest to help Atterberry the magician to find an important item that was stolen from him Glenna decides to help find it The story is well written and fast paced A fun read for all ages The pros My 8 year old son read through this book in about 2 days and then devoured the next two books in the series just as fast So this makes me think that most kids would enjoy it It's also about Ren Faire life which is something you don't come across too often in literature I think children would be very interested to know about the types of people who work and camp at Renaissance Festivals Another interesting aspect of the story is how when the main character Glenna travels to Otherworld she meets many people who are the fantastical versions of people Glenna knows in the real worldThe cons This is not one of those stories like Harry Potter that both children and adults will enjoy Unless you like Magic Tree House books I guess It's for kids not teens The writing is simple and the characters are pretty flat Sometimes the characters do or say things that seems out of character like the author needed them to move over heresay that thing etc as opposed to the character themselves needing to do the thing The climax wasanti climatic There was opportunity for drama a chase perhaps? but it fizzled out into a minor confrontation Even for the real world it was too realisticA final pro however It ends with Glenna knowing the villain isn't through with his mischievous plot yet so it's a good incentive to pick up the next book and keep reading Many fantasy novels have the heroine crossing from the everyday world to a magical land – and honestly I love it when that happens This one is unusual in that the world is not so everyday but the already touched with magic world of the Renaissance Faire and also in that the magical land is produced from the collective creative and whimsical imagination of the faire regulars As you'd imagine it is a richer brighter and scarier place than our world I like it too that the 11 year old heroine is part of a loving if distracted family not neglected or abused – and that she is generally kind and responsible though inclined to panic The mirroring effect of the two worlds is nicely done This is the first of a series but the present story is complete albeit with an unrepentant thief itching to create mischief A good read I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review Eleven can be a magical age as Glenna discovers on her birthday Explore the world of renessaince faires with Glenna her family and friends in this delightful adventure fueled by a young girl's imagination and perhaps a bit of magic as well The book is definitely worth your time a great read aloud book for the family I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review The renaissance fair isn’t just a place for fun instead it’s a place where two worlds collide With fairies fortune tellers and many mythical creatures Glenna must encounter and even work with She learns that imagination is than she had ever imagined and must work to save the day at home and in a new frightening place She is a member of a travelling family who act out all the myths and legends She loves her life but it is about to change She finds another realm where she needs to be a hero and find a missing relic She will need to juggle both worlds without breaking them Can she do both? Will she find the relic? See how she gets onI received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
