I enjoy children s literature that doesn t assume children are cotton headed, video game controlled, mindless little Jersey Shore loving entitled zombies These are thinking books, in fact, this series would be a good add to a history lesson as well The author goes with the idea that many children still want to learn and if you entertain them at the same time, all the better I won this book from the with a body being discovered in Snipesville and end with the identity of the victim revealed It is not a totally happy ending but it leads the reader to want to find out what happens next The third installment in The Snipesville Chronicles takes us back to colonial times in Georgia The children find themselves in difficult predicaments and trying to navigate situations they are not fully prepared to handle Annette Laing does a wonderful job presenting history in an engaging manner Additionally, the characters we have been introduced to continue to grow and develop, especially Hannah Another truly enjoyable read Now on to Book 4 Hannah, her brother Alex and their friend Brandon feel that they are about to be transported back in time once again They can t explain the feeling, they just see the signs They don t know when it is going to happen though When Brandon and Alex dig up a skeleton they know the time is getting closer Hannah is tired of being transported to different time periods She wishes they hadcontrol about when they go They have always felt secure in their travels because at some point they run in Hannah, her brother Alex and their friend Brandon feel that they at some point they run into the Professor who guides them on their mission But this time the Professor has disappeared The friends find themselves in 1752 London Hannah manages to find work at an Inn, Alex is nowhere to be found and Brandon is now a white boy in the service of the local preacher turned missionary Through a series of events they all find themselves in America Alex is now black and a slave to Mr Gordon who also holds servant papers for Hannah.Determined to find out who the skeletal remains are, they must each adjust to their new lot in life Alex now called Cato is now afraid of white men, as his owner has been known to be cruel to slaves as an example to other slaves Likewise Brandon is afraid of the black slaves as he has heard about the rebellions against white owners.Set in a time when slavery was just becoming legal in Georgia the 3 friends find themselves suffering along with their fellow slaves and wondering if the Professor will ever show up to transport them back to the 21st century.I really like time travel books I have really enjoyed the Snipesville Chronicles as each story is connected Look Ahead, Look Back left many unanswered questions so I am going to assume that there will be another book in the series I still get frustrated with Hannah s whining and her self centeredness I enjoy the historical facts in each story, it gives such a reality to each book Learning about England shipping their prisoners to America and the slave trade was very educational, and having that history all interwoven into an exciting story made the book a fast and enjoyable read In this third installment of the history grounded time travel adventure by Dr Annette Laing, Hannah, her brother Alex, and their friend Brandon find themselves unexpected transported to Laing, Hannah, her brother Alex, and their friend Brandon find themselves unexpected transported to 18th century England and then America The mystery uncover the identity of the skelton found in present day Snipesville, GA I applaud Laing for her inventive approach to dealing with the complexities of race In doing so, it enabled her to really delve deep into her characters as they explored and unearthed their own thoughts on race I found their internal emotions and thoughts fascinating.Secondly, she does things differently in this book then she did in the last one At this point in their time traveling adventures, Hannah, Alex, and Brandon are pretty smart kids My criticism in the last book was that the Professor referred to as that woman by Hannah would often come in at the end and do the big reveal This time around, Laing worked to make the kids figure out the mystery for themselves As a result of her absence, they found themselves having to save themselves rather than rely on the Professor to save them.Thirdly, the book introduced some interesting connections that I had not seen coming Laing drops hints and refers not too heavily to the previous books As I read I found myself saying curiouser and curiouser I view this book in three acts Laing started out very strong from the first to the second act In the second act, the historical detail, while interesting, tended to slow the speed of her plot By the end of the second act, she finds her footing again The third ramps up to successful conclusion I felt at once pleased and yet burning withquestions.I hear she is writing a fourth so I will be interested to see where the story goes Will my questions be answered With all of her books, Laing likes to keep the reader intrigued and that she does extremely well This usually black is a white servant to an unfortunate pastor they have realised they are there to solve the mystery of the skeleton that Alex Brandon had discovered before they time travelled.I am trying to read as fast as I can because I want to know who done it too. Finally finished the mystery is solved the skeleton was the professor who got shot in 1752, she was the white witch who the slaves went to for medicines.I hope there is another Snipsville Chronicle soon, I am going to have to buy the other 2 books now work backwards fantastic read x I won this book from GoodReads as a FirstReads free enjoyable read even for us older readers It tells the story of three kids who are time travelers They travel back to the year 1752 ,the people they meet and the discoveries they encounter trying to solve a mystery in the present time The discoveries they make in the past 1752 helps them solve a mystery now It touches on slavery and injustice at that time and the hardships people suffered through in that time in history in America and England You can tell that the author did her research well to make the facts as historically accurate as possible.I really enjoyed this book and because of that I and would also like to read the first two books in the series by this author Annette Laing is back with her best book yet The three time traveling children from her previous books are back but this a lot of character development in this book Hannah is less whiney than she was in the previous books because she seems to have grown up a little, and learned from her previous experiences This was a wonderful story, filled with wonderful historical details And, for the history nerds like me, the author even has a short section in the back about how she learned some of the things in her book such as folklore and even the practice of faking a branding on convicts I greatly enjoyed this book, and sincerely hope another one is in the making I won this book in a giveaway on goodreads There is a
